They tried to copy the thing Larry David used to do where he would talk (write) about one thing but the subject was really something else entirely. Like the moment a pizza becomes a pizza. Friends tried that on several occasions, but it usually fell flat. They should have just stuck to their own thing.

Exactly Raw, the characters were too nice to be human beings, let alone New Yorkers -I'm sorry but it's true- You have Phoebe doing the surrogacy thing for her brother, Ross canceled his TV interview to help Rachel dress, Monica.. well actually 90% of Monica's action are too nice..

Care to mention how how (friends) copied (Seinfeld)? honestly I dare you to mention one aspect that was "copied" from (Seinfeld). If anything it took (Seinfeld's) humor to the next level -- combining it with drama.. although during the 9th season the drama was too much.

this was kind of a lame show, copied Sienfeld alot, but without really understanding what Seinfeld waS doing, and so not getting it right.

I like to watch it sometimes though because Joey being dumb cracks me up. Putting Little Women in the freezer because he got to the point where Beth was "really sick." He kills me!

Never got him as very sexy though even though they tried to make him out to be a greek god. It was a cute show. Mindless.

Ross just makes me want to ff though.

Some call the show stupid because of the jokes, yet there is a big gap between stupid and obvious

In the case of this show, the gap had to be measured with an electron microscope. We're talking nano-gap....

Friends is the kinda show you watch when you want to just relax and unwind: the jokes are easy to understand and funny, the characters are very likeable (like some of you I think Ross is an exception) and they are easy on the eyes. Some call the show stupid because of the jokes, yet there is a big gap between stupid and obvious

The problem was not the monkey--the problem was not ENOUGH monkeys (or at least primates). Imagine if they had done this a la "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp" where all the cast members were chimps and Ross was the pet. Now THAT might have been funny!

Please note that I have offered an opinion that is tempered and devoid of unnecessary emotion (it is also zoologically correct). To that end, I have met TM's criteria for objectivity.

Hmm.. I wouldnt call a show uber lame for showing a monkey for a few episodes - thats just shallow but yea the monkey was pretty annoying just like Ross was. My favourite was definitely Chandler, very comedic and talented

I like the show and I like how escapism is represented in this show. It definitely added something new and there is a reason why TVguide chose this program to be in the list of greatest tv shows of all time (they've been around for 50 years, you'd they know what they're talkin about huh?)

People, any show that has a monkey as a character is uber lame. Really it was a slap in the face to the viewer. If the writers wanted to go in the monkey plot they should have included the Ebola hemorrhagic fever, complete with bleeding eyeballs and puke. Here is the story line. The monkey bites Ross, which gets him sick. He sneezes causing his eyeball to burst noisily from his eye socket, which lands squarely in Joey's agape mouth. Both of whom are now infected with the deadly ebola so to take revenge for being rendered a bloody mess they spit in the coffee urn at the coffee shop, hoping to include the masses with their affliction. But much to their chagrin no one drinks the coffee because they realize that monkeys and good television do not mix. Ross and Joey then puke in each others mouths as they lie on the couch and die embracing in a death seizure.
